Sometimes I think the suburban life is not for me - mowing lawns on a diagonal and patio umbrellas are not my favorite things in the world. I yearn for the housing market to pick up so we can sell The Money Pit and move to New York City. Then again, we're homebodies by nature, accustomed to our creature comforts, like our own laundry machines and plenty of room for the cats to roam and run. I'm sure our frequent trips to New York are no way to gauge everyday living.
Whether we remain Stepford-ites or not, it's nice that we live close enough to New York to be able to jump in the car and dash there for the weekend. Especially because of the wide variety of vegan and vegetarian restaurants. We've been to many - some good, others not so much. There's one place we visit every time we're in New York, and it never disappoints - Zenith.
We've never waited for a table, and the service is excellent. But what we come back for time after time is the food. We've brought our carnivorous friends there, and they've loved it, too. The menu is extensive, from delicious appetizers to great vegan desserts. Just look at their menu! (Scroll down to the vegetarian section - the restaurant has veg and non-veg sections) How can you go wrong with dishes named "Vegetarian Quilt," "Bundles of Joy," or "Succulent Paradise?"
My favorite dishes are the Zenith Schneitzel, which comes from the kitchen sizzling and steaming, and the pumpkin ravioli. The portions are huge and filling, but there's always room for desserts like the banana coconut cake.
Zenith is located at 311 West 48th Street at 8th.
