The new Hollywood face

So here's a curious question that came up the other night when we were flipping channels and came upon the movie Clueless (which I love, by the way.) Brittany Murphy looks to be about the same size now as she was then, but her face looks totally different. All that flesh around her cheeks is gone. And she's not the only one. Thumb through any magazine and you'll notice that the faces of famous women have a definitive "Hollywood look." I wouldn't describe it as 'gaunt,' but it's pretty close. Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston come to mind as other examples. Jennifer Garner is starting to get it, and pretty much all of the Desperate Housewives have it. Are all these women having surgery to get this look, or is it something else, like diet? Whatcha think?

I think you can say this about their entire bodies. A pretty new actress comes along and she looks somewhat normal. Thin but normal. Then a couple years later she's got the Hollywood body. I think it's intensive work with trainers where they cut their body fat so low that they look skeletal. I find them less appealing when they get that skinny. Or maybe it's drugs? I think surgery does come into the picture too.

I think Brittany Murphy looks like she's lost at least 20 lbs. since then (which would account for the gaunt-itude).

It could be baby fat, too. Although I'm a good 10-20 lbs heavier now than I was in high school, my pictures from that time period show a fullness in my face that no longer exists. And god knows I never did anything to make it go away--it just disappeared on its own when I hit age 18 or so. Maybe the same thing happened to Brittany?

I also think magazines are VERY airbrush happy. I don't think we see anything near what it looks like, once they get done.
