NFL Throwbacks

Tony thinks it's funny because I refer to sports uniforms as "costumes." I don't pay much attention to sports news, but this story caught my eye:

NFL Throwback Uniforms Uglier Than Ever

I couldn't disagree more. I find most of the new costumes aesthetically horrific. We watch a lot of sports in our house (and by ' we watch' I mean, Tony watches while I sit next to him on the sofa with my laptop). When I do glance up at the screen, I'd rather see the retro colors that I remember from my youth - the ones I saw on screen when my dad and brother were watching games and I was sitting nearby with a Judy Blume book in hand. I especially love the old school designs and logos. The least the NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA can do is give us Project-Runway-watching-girly-girls something fun to look at!

What do you think of the resurgence of retro costumes in sports?

Costumes! Ha!

I don't mind most of the throwbacks too much. In fact, I even like some of them. However, I really don't like the uniforms the Eagles wore last week.

Of course, the real issue is that the whole throwback phenomenon (like the alternate jerseys) is just a way for the leagues and teams to market another thing for people to sell.

I think the new old uniforms look like the NFL equivalent of '80s style prom tuxes. Instead of "Hold On to the Night" it's "Hold On to the Ball."
