Lyrics Quiz 2 - The 80s

Here we go - the second lyrics quiz. This week's theme: THE 80s. Same rules apply - one week, no googling, double points for knowing song and artist. Leave answers in the comments or email them to me at joeparadox AT gmail DOT com. Winner gets a free song from iTunes!

A bonus point to anyone who knows the Clay Aiken connection to one of the songs!

1
Do I have to tell the story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up getting wet

2
Now she's gone
And I'm back on the beat
A stain on my notebook
Says nothing to me

3
A race is on I'm on your side
And hearing you my engines die
I'm in a mood for you
For running away

4
Look now, look all around
There's no sign of life
Voices, another sound
Can you hear me now?

5
It's getting rough, off the cuff
I've got to say enough's enough
Bigger the harder he falls
But when the wrong antidote
Is like a bulge on the throat
You run for cover in the heat

6
From the mountain tops down to the sunny street
A different drum is playing a different kind of beat
It's like a mystery that never ends
I see you crying and I want to kill your friends

7
Birds fly
In the eye of the faithless daughter
Broken
At the bitter end
Wasted
Sacrificed for a new Nirvana
Night time
Sends us on our way

8
My heart is old it holds my memories
My baby burns a gemlike flame
Somewhere between the soul and soft machine
Is where I find myself again

9
Moving forward using all my breath
Making love to you was never second best
I saw the world thrashing all around your face
Never really knowing it was always mesh and lace

10
Where does it go from here?
Is it down to the lake I fear?

Good luck!

I know SIX! I'll think about the others. Want the answers here? Or email?

Aw, heck. Just delete this comment if you don't want the answers. I don't want to ruin anyone's fun.

I don't recognize all of them or can't access them in my head - there's too much noise here right now.

Dang, girl! Great taste in music! I swear we must be twins or something.

I don't know the Clay connection, though. He must have covered one of these songs or auditioned with one. I can't remember that far back.

It's frustrating because I read them and they seem so familiar, but I can't seem to get from "familiar" to "I know what that is."

I'm sure, like the last one, once I know the answers, I'll think it was so obvious I should have gotten it.

Craig, everything sounds familiar to you. Heh.

OK, off the top of my head, I know 4, 9, and 10. I should know more, huh.

But damn, I haven't heard 4 in FO-EV-AR. Love that song. Hell, love that whole album. I remember when I was a kid, I totally wanted to be Simon LeBon. Heh.

Mikey, that's harsh. Just because I'm proving that I suck at this lyric game on two blogs...

It's not my fault I can't place lyrics without a tune. Oh wait, yeah it is.

Dang, the only one I know is the one with the Clay Aiken connection - it's Kyrie by Mr. Mister, which he covered in on tour. (It was the set opener - heh.)

And also, I totally had the idea to do a decade quiz too. I was posting mine from the 90s when I found yours, so it looks like I stole your idea, but I didn't. Just so you know. :-)

I meant to add that my lnew yrics quiz is up, too. And I've been meaning to ask you, which sect of the Clay Aiken fandom did you come from? I started on TWoP during AI2, then went to the ezboard when the boards split - the CH thinks I'm eeeeeevil but it's okay because I think most of them are looney tunes, but I really don't have time for any of it anymore. I am looking forward to the new album, though.
