Funblogging

With the help of google, Movable Type and Tony, I was able to complete the migration of my old blog (the first incarnation of joeparadox as well as clayoftheday) to this website. Now, everything is in one place - posts, comments, images. My OCD was in full swing as I checked and double-checked that nothing was missing. The process was tedious but satisfying.

Looking back, I realized that my blog has gone through an interesting progression. When I wasn't pontificating about Clay Aiken, my site was either a platform for me to chronicle the quirky stories of my life, or a place to blog. While I still write quirky stories (and recaps of reality television shows), I haven't done much in the way of blogging for quite a while. Responses to news stories, fun links, silly quizzes, memes - all of these things have all but disappeared. I miss them! And I think it's time they come back!

Unlike great writers, I do not possess the gift of brevity. The introduction continues. I'm always looking for new blogs to read, and lucky for me, I stumbled upon We want to be on a gameshow. Not only did I find a great team blog based on one of my favorite pasttimes, I also found great new blogs to read. Like my new favorite, The Fount of Useless Information (who wouldn't love that just for the title?), which linked to one of my old (and current) favorites, whirled peas. Triva Nerds also introduced me to hey freak and Invisible Lizard's Unusual Oranges. I'm sure I will find more new reads as I click through the member list, but let's get to the point, shall we?

Mike at the now-defunct "The Wingnuttiest" reminded me about funblogging with his post about his all-time top 5 cereals. So here's mine.

5. Mr. Wonderful's Surprize (from the 1970s) / Corn Chex (now)
4. Count Chocula (pre-vegan days)
3. Corn Pops
2. Cocoa Pebbles
1. Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter Crunch (which is weird because I don't like peanut butter)

And yours?

1. Grape Nuts

2-5 in no particular order:

Cinnamon Life

Frosted Mini Wheats

Wheat Chex

Corn Chex

Things that would have made the list if I hadn't tried to eat them as an adult and realized that they don't live up to childhood memories.

Cap'n Crunch

Cookie Crisp

Lucky Charms

And finally, one I wish had been around when I was a kid, because even now I can eat a whole box without milk: Reese's Puffs.

Ok, now this is why blogging is fun. 1. You are so totally right about Cookie Crisp. Although I find that many of our childhood cereals have been altered so horribly that they barely resemble our Saturday Morning favorites. Remember when the monster cereals had the teeny little marshmallows? One size. One shape.

I think I'm going to amend my list to include Corn Chex on #5, since they don't make Mr. Wonderful's anymore, and even if they did, I doubt it would be vegan.

No question on number 1, the rest are just there cause I have ate them at one time or another.

1. Capt Crunch WITH crunchberries (YUM) Yes I am an adult, thank you.
2. Kelloggs Brown Sugar Cinnamon Granola Muchems.
3. Frankenberry.
4. Plain Capt Crunch, before he found the treasure of Crunchberries.
5. Trix.

I seem to see a pattern here. I like color, I believe. : )

I still love Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles and Reese's Puffs. My all-time favorite grown-up cereal is Rice Chex, though I also enjoy a Grape Nut now and then.

You know what's really good? Grape nuts on chocolate ice cream (or in my case 'frozen soy dessert). My friend Rebecca's mom introduced me to that years ago and I was instantly hooked.

Lucky Charms, obviously. I'm also a fan of Blueberry Muffin Tops, which are made by Malt-O-Meal and so far, I can only find at Wal-mart.

Blueberry Muffin Tops! I've never had those!

Oh. poo! They're not vegan!

My new favorite (which may be for a limited time only) is:

Kellogg's Disney's Pirates of Caribbean Cereal. Yes, that is the name. Johnny Depp is on the box. The cereal tastes like Cocoa Puffs meets Lucky Charms and it is GOOD!!!

1. Pirates of the Caribbean Cereal
2. Cocoa Puffs
3. Cocoa Pebbles
4. Cocoal Krispies
5. Special K

And thanks for the shout out! Woo! I am honored.

Oh man, Special K used to be one of my faves in the pre-vegan days. I don't understand why they gotta put animal products in a cereal without marshmallows, the bastages!
