Your world frightens and confuses me!

Now that My Shows have come to a screeching halt, giving me no time to detox, save a few episodes of TAR4 that have been sitting in the DVR for months, I guess I should pick up a book and read, huh?

I'm thinking I'll start out with some nice, wordless books like Good Dog, Carl before moving into a little Green Eggs and Ham. By the end of June, I should be up to some short chapter books, like Henry and Mudge, Nate the Great, and Horrible Harry, and I'm hoping by mid-July to be deep into Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.

Things might move a bit faster than I anticipate, and if that is the case, I could use some good book recommendations. Leave your message at the beep.

Beep.

There's always Big Brother 7: All Stars, beginning July 6...

:)

Oh yeah! And Treasure Hunters!

Fiction? Non-fiction? Heavy? Light?

My suggestions: Life of Pi, Kite Runner, anything touched by Malcolm Gladwell, Devil in the Details, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Sex Drugs & Cocoa Puffs, Never Let Me Go, and so many others.

This is the third time I've seen Kite Runner recommended in recent days, so maybe I'll start with that. I'll read pretty much anything, so...

As a breakfast cereal aficionado, the book with Cocoa Puffs in the title intrigues me!

I'm reading A Prayer for Owen Meany right now, for the first time, and it's very readable.

I amend my last comment to say that I will read pretty much anything EXCEPT JOHN IRVING.

Girlfriend, set your DVR to PBS: Frontline, Frontline World, NOW, American Experience, Nova, P.O.V., and American Masters. xoxo

You could always forgo the book and watch Tuesday Night Book Club (supposedly "summer's guilty pleasure" starting at the end of June I think on CBS). But Im with Will Big Brother All Stars is going to be slammin! But as far as actual books..... you know me- I don't read anything but magazines, though I highly recommend Soap Opera Weekly and US Weekly!!!!! Good reads!!!!

Okay, Jamie just made a cat noise in my ear and told you to go to hell, so I need to know why you won't read John Irving.

What is this "reading" thing you speak of?

I am having LOST withdrawals right now, so I feel ya!

Posted by Q at May 31, 2006 05:38 PM

reading???? People of course. It comes out weekly you know. Anddddd you could make the jump to my pathetic no hiatus shows, yes the soaps. What fiction novel could compare to the mob, the WSB (oh yeah we're back), lethal injection countdowns turned around in the nick of time and of course, following spoiled Laguna Beach teens to LA!!!
Reading, that is what I did as an English major! Soap opera watching, now that is what I do as a professional!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Marisa at May 31, 2006 07:15 PM

Oh, good point! Only, I read Cliff's Notes as an English major, not the actual books. Catholic guilt compels me to make up for that in the television off-season!

Okay, coming late to the party, but here are some reading suggestions to tide you over:

Caleb Carr: The Alienist
Katherine Dunn: Geek Love
Matt Beaumont: e (this is an f*ing riot)
Sophie Hannah: Cordial and Corrosive
Minette Walters: The Sculptress

I'm a book whore, so any time you want suggestions, let me know!

How about "Goodnight Moon"? ;)

Tipping the Velvet, by Sarah Waters. It's a novel about lezzies in Victorian England. The BBC miniseries is good too (much better than that dreary picture about the self-hating cowboys).
