We finally got around to watching TAR from Tuesday.
Recap: Many teams are dumb and call the mafia capital of the world by a horse's name. The Internets prove helpful to BJ and Tyler while Lake and Michelle struggle with using technology to their advantage. Joseph and Ray lift their big bells while the rest of the teams search for clothing with that April-fresh smell. Fran and Barry pass by yet another cluebox, Lori struggles to piece together a naked man and Eric and Jeremy are gayer than ever. In the end, Lake and Michelle's yield costs Danielle and Dani the race.
Comments: Finally, the yield matters. Until this episode, no team had been eliminated because of the yield. I've never been in the Lake/Michelle hate camp, but I liked the in-the-camera apology. Sure, we all know this is a race and the teams have to be competitive, but there are relationships built on the race behind the scenes that we don't see. I love the idea of a racer speaking directly to another with the intent of communicating their feelings after the editing was said and done.
Immediately juxtaposing Monica's "dumb blonde" comment with her mispronunciation of Palermo? You could call that good editing, but this show really just edits itself.
My only complaint about the statue-assembly roadblock is that teams working simultaneously should have been spaced out better, or had some kind of barrier between them. Ray was smart to hide his two extra pieces and keep hush about them. Although most teams realized right away that the pieces were superfluous, Lori and Dave proved that the obvious is sometimes not so. Those two pieces added an element of frustration and timing to the task that should have been maximized as much as possible.
Best moment: "Whoa! Digital imaging!" BJ and Tyler are quickly usurping Lori and Dave in the favorite team category! Come on, even Phil couldn't keep it together.
