TAR 9.8 - Here Comes The Bedouin!

Recap: Teams travel to and are awestruck by the country of Oman. Even the Frats put aside their bravado for a moment to revel in the great beauty of Muscat. Travel times, bunching, and a difficult detour choice (hoisting and delivering a camel or locating and delivering a message box from a watchtower) shift the order of the pack around a bit. A frustrating roadblock (digging among 117 sand mounds for a shuwa filled with food) puts Fran and Barry in first place for the first time, but leaves BJ and Tyler struggling to stay in the race. Phil spares them the bad news and takes all their money and possesions instead.

Comments: Finally, a non-elimination leg! Good thing, too, because I want to see more of BJ's impression of Lake. Hilarious. Ray and Yolanda turn out to be the real stars of this episode, next to the camels and the kick-ass Bedouin dude who led the teams across the flooded roads of Oman. Luck played a huge part in the completion of both detour and roadblock tasks, but the element of frustration that occurs when early-starters watch late arrivers finish before them is one of the greatest dramatic elements of the Race. It totally messes with their heads. Love that.

There's only one alternate episode title worth mentioning this week, and it goes to Yolanda.

Your Mama's Got A Pattern Going!

Excellent.

Only having one alternate episode title wouldn't have anything to do with me deleting the episode before you could get the other good quotes, would it? As in, I can remember Tyler saying at least one thing worht repeating.

It was sort of a lackluster episode last night. I guess without the Lake and Michelle drama there aren't any strong voices. Even though they did try to play up the Yolanda/Ray drama. My thought: they never even lived in the same state and haven't spent any time together really, I cannot imagine how they thought doing the Race would be a good idea. They are either going to work through some relationship issues or totally breakup when they're done.

How much do I wish Lake had been played by BJ's hand all season? And how much did I think I'd never say THAT again?
